Pantry inventory: stop buying twice and cut food waste

Buying a second jar of something you already had, or throwing away food that expired at the back of the fridge, costs money every month. A light pantry inventory fixes both problems without turning your kitchen into a warehouse.

What a pantry inventory really is

It is simply a list of the products you buy regularly, with an idea of how much you have and how fast you use it. You do not need to count every grain of rice – only the items you buy again and again.

Start with your 20 regular products

Look at your last receipts and pick the products that appear most often: milk, eggs, coffee, pasta, toilet paper, and so on. These are the items worth following.

When you scan receipts with Maliqo, these products are recorded automatically each time you buy them.

Know when to restock

If you buy a pack of coffee every 12 days, you will need a new one around day 10. This is called a reorder point. Maliqo calculates it from your own purchase history and tells you when a product is about to run out.

Turn the pantry into a shopping list

Before each trip, build your list in this order:

  • Items that are about to run out
  • Ingredients for the meals you planned
  • Nothing else – if it is not on the list, it waits for next time

Simple anti-waste habits

  • Put new products behind older ones (first in, first out)
  • Plan one “use what we have” meal each week
  • Freeze bread, meat and leftovers before their date
  • Buy large packs only for products you use fast

Do it in a few seconds a week

The goal is not perfection. Scanning receipts and letting the app follow your stock takes seconds, and that is what makes the habit last.
